A Corporate Documentary for
MKS / Newport optical Instruments
The MKS Newport documentary covers advanced photonics research being conducted at the University of Arizona, following scientists working at the intersection of quantum technology and optical engineering. This project brought Ragtown Media into one of the most technically complex and forward-looking research environments in the American Southwest, documenting work that has implications for computing, communications, and scientific measurement at the quantum level.
Industry Meets Academia
MKS/Newport Instruments partnered with the University of Arizona to support advanced research within the university’s optics center.
This collaboration brings together precision engineering and academic research, creating an environment where cutting-edge technology is used in real-world scientific applications.
Our Role
Ragtown Media handled full documentary production for this project, including pre-production research, on-location filming at the University of Arizona, researcher interviews, and post-production editing. Producing documentary content in a scientific research setting required close collaboration with the MKS and Newport Quantum teams to accurately represent highly technical subject matter in a visually compelling way.
Why This Story
Science rarely gets the documentary treatment it deserves. The work happening in photonics and quantum research at institutions like the University of Arizona is genuinely groundbreaking — but most people have never heard of it. This project gave us the opportunity to bring rigorous documentary storytelling to a subject that is shaping the future of technology.
Voices from the University of Arizona
The film features interviews with the dean and faculty members from the University of Arizona, offering insight into how these systems support research, education, and innovation.
These perspectives ground the film in real-world impact, connecting the technology to the people using it every day.
A Documentary Approach to Corporate Storytelling
Rather than focusing solely on the technology, the film takes a documentary approach, capturing real environments, real conversations, and real processes.
This approach allows complex systems to be understood through the people and spaces they exist within.
