About the project
Groundwork Therapy is a therapeutic documentary produced by Ragtown Media in Tucson, Arizona and Melbourne, Australia. The film follows Kylie Peters and her equine-assisted therapy program, documenting the science of horse-human connection and the role of ground-based interaction in emotional and psychological healing. This is not a traditional healthcare video, it's a cinematic look inside a real therapeutic environment, built around authentic moments between practitioners, horses, and patients.
The Groundwork Documentary Story
With such a powerful, massive animal comes risk, but not the risk you first think of, obvious danger from the animal itself, hurting a person. There is a deep emotional connection that is unseen to the human eye. If that is broken or mistreated, it can affect a person on a deep emotional level.
The science
We speak with scientists and researchers who have studied the deep connection between horses and humans. With the project still in production, we can not speak much on this.
Behind the Scenes
why this story
Equine-assisted therapy remains widely misunderstood despite growing clinical evidence. Groundwork Therapy gave us the opportunity to document something real and underrepresented, a treatment model that is changing lives in ways that traditional talk therapy cannot. This project is one of our most personal pieces of long-form documentary work.
